Download & Install
POIS installs the same way as any SotA Lua addon — unzip it into your Lua folder. A short backup step first means an update can never cost you your existing setup.
- Back up your Lua folder first. In your file explorer, right-click your
Luafolder → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder, then rename the result with today's date, e.g.Lua-backup-20260722.zip. If anything ever goes wrong with an update, you can restore from this instead of losing your whole addon setup. - Find your Lua folder. You don't need to hunt through Program Files — log into SotA and type
/datafolderinto local chat. This opens the folder where SotA stores all of its files. YourLuafolder is right inside it. - Download the release. Grab the latest POIS release zip from the addon's forum thread.
- Unzip into place. Extract the release so the
poisfolder lands directly inside yourLuafolder, alongside any other addons you already have installed.
Enabling In-Game
SotA has a built-in Lua Script manager. This is where you load, enable, and reload every addon — including POIS.
- Log in and open the Lua Script manager from the game menu.
- If you unzipped POIS before logging in, it'll already be listed here — skip to step 4.
- If it's not showing (for example, you unzipped it while already logged in), click Reload Scripts. This tells the manager to look for new or changed addon files.
- Once POIS appears in the list, click On to enable it.
/lua reload, which does the exact same full restart of every script from local chat instead of the menu.
The Tray Icon
Once enabled, a small tray icon appears on screen — this is home base for the whole addon.
● Open / Close
Click the tray icon to open or close the main Points of Interest window.
● Reposition & Minimize
Drag the tray window anywhere, or minimize it down to just the icon. Both its position and its minimized/shown state are saved and restored across sessions.
● Show/Hide All (title bar icon)
A small icon on the tray's title bar toggles visibility for every point in your current scene, all at once — a one-click way to clear your screen without opening the main list.
● Quick Add (+)
The + icon on the title bar jumps straight to the Add Point window, so you can drop a new point without opening the full list first.
Main Window
The main window is where you manage points in your current scene: adding, filtering, searching, toggling visibility, and reaching every other window in the addon.
Adding a Point
Click Add, type a name, and pick a starting color from the swatch row. Clicking Add Point drops a point at your current location, in whatever scene you're standing in right now.
The Point List
Each row in the list breaks down into five pieces:
- Color swatch — click to cycle through colors. This changes both the point's in-world label color and which color filter (see below) controls it.
- Description — click the name to rename the point in place.
- Distance — live distance from your current position, updating on its own every second or so while the window is open. Always shown, no setting required.
- On/Off — controls whether the point is actually visible in the game world, in that scene.
- Delete — click once to arm it; it becomes Yes/No so a single accidental click can't remove a point you wanted to keep.
Scrolling the List
The scrollbar has a grab-and-drag thumb between the up/down arrows — drag it directly instead of clicking the arrows repeatedly for a long list.
Filtering & Searching the List
These controls only change what you're currently looking at in the list — not what's visible in the game world.
Color Filters
Click any swatch in the top row to hide every point that isn't that color from the list. Filters combine — enable several colors at once to see just that subset.
Search
Type into the search box for a live text filter against point names in the current scene, as you type.
All On / All Off
This single button toggles in-world visibility for every point currently matching your active color filters and search text — the filtered set, not the whole scene. It always shows the action a click will take:
- All On — shown when anything in the filtered set is currently off. Click to turn all of it on.
- All Off — shown once everything in the filtered set is already on. Click to turn all of it off.
Filter down to just your red points first, then click the toggle, and only your red points change — nothing else in the scene is touched.
Settings
Reachable from the main window's Settings button. Adjust and click Save, or Cancel to discard any changes.
- Distance points can be seen — how far away a point can be before its label disappears.
0means unlimited. - Scale of point labels — the size of point labels rendered in the world.
1is default. - Height offset — how far above the ground a label floats.
2is default. - Default color for new points — the same swatch picker used in the Add window; sets which color a newly-added point starts with unless you pick a different one at add-time.
- Show Distance on Labels — off by default. When on, appends the live distance to each point's in-world label (e.g. "Atos Combat Buff (42m)"), updating on its own every second or so. This is separate from the Distance column in the main list, which is always shown regardless of this setting.
Find
Search across every scene you've saved points in — not just your current one.
Handy when you remember a point's name but you're not sure what scene you put it in. Results are grouped and sorted by scene.
Export
Turn a set of points into a single line of text you can share anywhere — Discord, a text file, a forum post.
- Click Export on the main window. A selection screen lists every point in your current scene, each with a checkbox defaulting to checked.
- Use Select All / Select None, or uncheck individual points you don't want included.
- Click Export Selected. This generates a long encoded string in a read-only box.
- Select all the text (Ctrl+A) and copy it (Ctrl+C).
That string is what you paste elsewhere to share — anyone with POIS can bring those exact points into their own game via Import.
Import
Bring someone else's exported points into your own list.
- Click Import on the main window.
- Paste the export string you were given into the box.
- Click Import.
Every point in the string gets added to your list — if you're missing the scene those points belong to, that scene is created automatically.
Point Libraries
A point library is a separate small addon that automatically populates a curated set of points into your list once it's loaded — community-maintained content, like "every resource node in this zone."
Library points show up in your list a little differently:
- Instead of a Delete button, they're tagged Library — they belong to the library addon itself, so they're not yours to delete or rename locally.
- You can still toggle them on/off and change their display color, exactly like any point you added yourself.
- They can be included in an Export alongside your own points — sharing a mix of both in one string.
Track Points
Pin any points from your current scene to a small standalone window, without needing the main list open at all.
Click Track on the main window to open a selection screen — check off whichever points you want, then click Track Selected. This replaces whatever was previously tracked; it's a fresh pick every time, not an accumulation.
The Tracked Points window shows just three things per point:
- Color swatch — matches the point's own color.
- Name
- Live distance and direction — updates on its own every second or so as you move, showing distance plus a 16-point compass direction (N, NNE, NE, and so on), and an up/down arrow if the point is well above or below your current height.
Tracking is scoped to the scene you were in when you tracked — distance and direction don't mean anything once you've left that scene, so the window closes automatically on a scene change. Closing it yourself (its own X button) works the same way: tracking is cleared entirely, not paused. Nothing about tracking is saved between sessions; it's meant purely as a short-term navigation aid, not a persistent list.
Font Size
Every POIS window shares one font-size control, shown as a number in its title bar.
Click it to cycle through sizes if the default text is too small or too large for you. It resizes buttons, text, and layout consistently across every window — not just the words.
