Download & Install
FXStop installs the same way as any SotA Lua addon — unzip it into your Lua folder. A short backup step first means an update can never cost you your existing setup.
- Back up your Lua folder first. In your file explorer, right-click your
Luafolder → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder, then rename the result with today's date, e.g.Lua-backup-20260725.zip. If anything ever goes wrong with an update, you can restore from this instead of losing your whole addon setup. - Find your Lua folder. You don't need to hunt through Program Files — log into SotA and type
/datafolderinto local chat. This opens the folder where SotA stores all of its files. YourLuafolder is right inside it. - Download the release. Grab the latest FXStop release zip from the addon's forum thread.
- Unzip into place. Extract the release so
fxstop.luaand thefxstopfolder both land directly inside yourLuafolder, alongside any other addons you already have installed.
Enabling In-Game
SotA has a built-in Lua Script manager. This is where you load, enable, and reload every addon — including FXStop.
- Log in and open the Lua Script manager from the game menu.
- If you unzipped FXStop before logging in, it'll already be listed here — skip to step 4.
- If it's not showing (for example, you unzipped it while already logged in), click Reload Scripts. This tells the manager to look for new or changed addon files.
- Once FXStop appears in the list, click On to enable it. FXStop depends on the SotA Event System (SES) addon — make sure that one shows as On too.
/lua reload, which does the exact same full restart of every script from local chat instead of the menu.
The Tray Icon
Once enabled, a small tray icon appears on screen — this is home base for the whole addon. It starts out expanded, so you'll see the full icon right away.
● Open / Close
Click the big icon to open or close the main "FX Stop" window.
● Reposition & Minimize
Drag the tray window anywhere, or minimize it down to just the title bar with the normal minimize button. Its position and minimized state are both saved and restored across sessions.
● Toggle All (title bar icon)
A small icon on the tray's own title bar toggles every effect in the list on or off at once — without opening the main window at all.
● Font Size
The number on the title bar is the same shared font-size control every FXStop window uses — see the Font Size section below.
Main Window
Clicking the tray icon opens "FX Stop" — this is where you manage every blockable effect and the debug logging level.
Every row shows a skill's display name and its current status — Allowed or Blocked. Click anywhere on the status to flip it.
The Skill List
Every effect FXStop knows how to block is listed by its real skill name — no fx-keys to memorize in the window UI.
- Allowed — the effect plays normally, exactly as if you didn't have FXStop installed.
- Blocked — FXStop silently prevents that effect from playing, from your perspective only. Other players still see their own copy of the effect.
If you've got more effects than fit on screen at once, the up and down arrows on the right of the list scroll it — drag the scrollbar thumb directly for a longer list instead of clicking the arrows repeatedly.
Debug Level
The button at the top of the main window cycles through three logging levels.
- 0 (default) — silent. No extra chat messages.
- 1 & 2 — print a message to local chat every time an effect plays or gets stopped. Useful if an effect isn't blocking the way you expect and you want to confirm FXStop is actually seeing it trigger.
Click the button to cycle 0 → 1 → 2 → back to 0.
Font Size
Every FXStop window shares one font-size control, shown as a number in its title bar.
Click it to cycle through sizes if the default text is too small or too large for you. It resizes buttons, text, and layout consistently across every window — not just the words.
Chat Commands
Prefer typing to clicking? Every FXStop feature is also reachable from local chat.
!fxstop help
Prints the full list of available commands directly into local chat.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
!fxstop list | List every FX key and its current block status |
!fxstop stop <fx-key> | Block an effect (get the fx-key from list) |
!fxstop allow <fx-key> | Allow an effect to play again |
!fxstop debug <level> | Set the debug logging level (0, 1, or 2) |
For example, to block Lightning Storm:
!fxstop stop lightningStorm
You'll see a confirmation in the chat log that the block has been enabled.
